Researching Unit

While I am working on my group project, we are researching on comparison between Gallaudet University and Howard University. We went to the library and we went to the archive section. We found the old picture related to Gallaudet University’s campus history. I am starting to interest in looking the old picture and researching on the picture. I found out that Gallaudet University’s previous name for this college is Columbia Institution for the Deaf and Dumb and Gallaudet College. I am surprised that Gallaudet University starts its own land by only having 4 acres. I found out that Gallaudet University is the second place that has indoor pool in the world. Trent Lukin and I went to there and we saw their old indoor pool inside the old gym. Today, this old gym became an alumni house for Gallaudet University Alumni Association. Also, this alumni house has bowling alley, indoor pool, gymnastic things, and basketball court before. Professor Brooke Budzinski gives us a tour in Gallaudet University and tells us many histories related to Gallaudet University. Before, we have two dorms and which is one for boys and one for girls. Boy’s dorm in College Hall and girl’s dorm in Elizabeth Peet Hall. Today, they changed College Hall became admission office and professor’s office and they still keep Peet Hall for coed students dorm. Gallaudet University’s color is Buff and Blue. They are represented to the army’s clothes color in Civil War. We have a legendary door; it is called the Coffin Door. Professor Budzinski explained to us that if any freshmen student walk through that door and they will get bad luck and not able to stay until they graduate from Gallaudet University. Professor Budzinski told us that we have unique design for the floor and its materials leftover from Capitol Hill floor. Gallaudet University have three statues, they are Edward Miner Gallaudet statue, Laurent Clerc statue, and a statue that Edward Gallaudet sit on chair and holding Alice Cogswell. Gallaudet University has a unique design on the Field House and it represents sign language of Gallaudet University. Gallaudet University have football field and they name their field after John B. Hotchkiss. After the tour ended, I went to the library and get the two books. It is called “History of the College for the Deaf” by Edward Miner Gallaudet, and “The Gallaudet Almanac” by The Gallaudet College Alumni Association. I am still working on them.
