This blog will talk about deaf women role at Gallaudet College. Deaf women role is the important part in Gallaudet University’s history. In the past of the time, Gallaudet College was strictly about deaf women’s attendance in Gallaudet College and blocks them from entering them in Gallaudet University. Deaf women complained to Gallaudet College that they are not low educator and they want to have some challenge in higher education instead of low education. While they are protesting at Gallaudet College, they collected together people and protesting to right to have higher education and equal with gentlemen. My opinion about this protest is seriously issue. I believe that all the deaf people deserve to equal their rights and education. If the deaf gentlemen only take their higher education, then deaf women will not have any increase on their knowledge or skills in their life. Deaf gentlemen will able to do anything what they want in their rest of life. Do you know what deaf women will do in their rest of life without getting higher education? They will stay at home and cleaning, cooking, taking care of children, do laundry, and feeding their spouse. That is not fair for them. Deaf women can have a chance to get higher education and start off their career pretty good while they are not staying at their home. They have a higher expectation and good assumption for their education. They believe in themselves. While they are winning the battle against Gallaudet College, they started to allow let deaf women to enter Gallaudet College. Since, deaf women did not strike or protest about education today and they have their rights equal with gentlemen about higher education.

Researching Unit
While I am working on my group project, we are researching on comparison between Gallaudet University and Howard University. We went to the library and we went to the archive section. We found the old picture related to Gallaudet University’s campus history. I am starting to interest in looking the old picture and researching on the picture. I found out that Gallaudet University’s previous name for this college is Columbia Institution for the Deaf and Dumb and Gallaudet College. I am surprised that Gallaudet University starts its own land by only having 4 acres. I found out that Gallaudet University is the second place that has indoor pool in the world. Trent Lukin and I went to there and we saw their old indoor pool inside the old gym. Today, this old gym became an alumni house for Gallaudet University Alumni Association. Also, this alumni house has bowling alley, indoor pool, gymnastic things, and basketball court before. Professor Brooke Budzinski gives us a tour in Gallaudet University and tells us many histories related to Gallaudet University. Before, we have two dorms and which is one for boys and one for girls. Boy’s dorm in College Hall and girl’s dorm in Elizabeth Peet Hall. Today, they changed College Hall became admission office and professor’s office and they still keep Peet Hall for coed students dorm. Gallaudet University’s color is Buff and Blue. They are represented to the army’s clothes color in Civil War. We have a legendary door; it is called the Coffin Door. Professor Budzinski explained to us that if any freshmen student walk through that door and they will get bad luck and not able to stay until they graduate from Gallaudet University. Professor Budzinski told us that we have unique design for the floor and its materials leftover from Capitol Hill floor. Gallaudet University have three statues, they are Edward Miner Gallaudet statue, Laurent Clerc statue, and a statue that Edward Gallaudet sit on chair and holding Alice Cogswell. Gallaudet University has a unique design on the Field House and it represents sign language of Gallaudet University. Gallaudet University have football field and they name their field after John B. Hotchkiss. After the tour ended, I went to the library and get the two books. It is called “History of the College for the Deaf” by Edward Miner Gallaudet, and “The Gallaudet Almanac” by The Gallaudet College Alumni Association. I am still working on them.

Dorm
While I was moving in Washington, DC, I was feeling that I will change myself because I will stay here at Washington, DC for four years. While I was moving in my dorm room, I feel that I am in jail because I am not getting used to have a small room like that I have my own room at home. After completed moving in my dorm, I feel weird because I am not getting used to live in Washington, DC. I was living in Massachusetts in my whole life. While I am looking around in my dorm room, I noticed that my wall is plain-colored white. It make me feeling down because white is common color that I see it everywhere and it is not exciting color for me. So, I added some posters on my wall to make my dorm looking better than plain-colored white. Also, I saw a bed, a drawer, a nightstand in my room. I have my own closet, which is smaller than my closet in my home in Massachusetts. I did not like my window because they are too big, I prefer medium windows. My rug is dirty and plain-colored. That is what my room look like.
I can tell who previously live my dorm last semester by noticing some doodle on my desk. It wrote by someone with class of year 2011. Also, I can see some stain in my room and it from last semester. I met those people who live in my room before and they explained what happen to that room.
I make this room “belong” to me by bringing my stuff to here in Washington, DC. I bring my own television, clothes, posters, laptop, microwave, miniature refrigerator, and personal things. These things make me thinking that this room is belonging to me.
It “becomes” my place by stay living here in Washington, DC. I will stay here for four years. I already feel that I am living here for my whole life but not true because I already living here for a half year.
It is a place where I make it a place for others. While I complete my first year at here Gallaudet University, I will move out to different dorm. Every year, I will move to different dorm and I rather to stay in one room for a year, not two years. Dorm is my place.

Campus
While I am entering this university, I see many different buildings. They have five different buildings and they are dorm. Their name is One Hall, Two Hall, Three Hall, Four Hall, and Five Hall. One Hall looks like oldest dorm than other dorms. One Hall has a lot of history inside its dorm. Two Hall is the largest building in the campus. Three Hall is for graduate students only. Four Hall and Five Hall recently opened in few years ago. They all looks like red bricks and many windows on them. This university campus has seven different restaurants. Most of those restaurants are grill-style. They have around ten parking lots. Six of those parking lots are for staff and faculty only and rest of it are for students only. They have a building and it looks creepy because they have oldest door on the front. It is a health center for students and staff only. Health Center Building looks like creepy and white painting on their building and black frame on their windows. A sign on the front entrance and it said, “Health Center Building”. This university has many different department building, and they are Biology, Mathematics, Education, History, Psychology, and Laboratories. Biology department building looks like a small, strange building. Mathematics department building looks like an average building. Education department building is the oldest building in the campus. History department building and Psychology department building looks like same building but they have different design on their outside. They have a building and it is a laboratories. That laboratories building have limited people inside the building. They are around three-fifty hundred feet apart away from each building. They have their own gym. They have baseball field, softball field, soccer field, football field, basketball court, and racquetball room. They look like new and recently opened. Football field is inside the dome and ground is making from recycled tire. They also have a building for department of public safety. Department of Public Safety building looks like a jail house. They have their own parking lot for securities only. This university has a building and it is more likely a museum. This museum restores many things that related to this university’s history. They have their own hotel and they are for students’ families who are visiting their children. The final piece of this campus have a statue, it looks like a legendary statue.

Introduction

My name is Robbie. I graduated from New Bedford High School. I am currently first-year student at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. My major is Education related to the mathematics. I am taking this course GSR-150. My expectation for this course is passing this course, attending in this class all the time without an absence, and earning an A in this course. I think blog will be useful because we can discuss about any topics or issues, so we can take different opinion and perceptive. We can gain our knowledge by discussing together over blog.
